Selah Academy Teaching Position
Grades 1 & 2 | 2025-2026 School Year
Selah Academy is a Christ-centered, literature-rich, discovery-based school, inspired by both Maria Montessori and Charlotte Mason. We are adding a first and second grade class to our already existing 4, 5, and 6-year-old program.
We are looking for a teacher for the 2025-2026 school year who understands the importance of good children’s literature and who can guide students on different academic levels in the same classroom.
Weekly rhythms of first and second grade at Selah Academy will include spiritual formation in the form of Catechesis of the Good Shepherd, walking downtown field trips, art, music, nature play, sports, individual classroom play, group games, the reading of great children's books, and discovery-based academic lessons.
A solid candidate would possess a love for and dedication to Jesus Christ and for children, a love for and knowledge of good children's literature, an appreciation of reading aloud to children and of child narration, an understanding of play-based learning, and a motivation to teach good habits of learning.
Total working hours will range from 28-35 hours per week with actual student hours from 9:00 am to 2:00 pm, Monday through Thursday from September through May.
Qualifications:
Commitment to Jesus Christ and the Christian faith
Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience
Experience working with children
Ability to communicate well with children and their parents
Good written and oral communication skills
Knowledge of good children's literature
Preferred:
Knowledge of discovery-based / play-based learning
Familiarity with a Montessori educational philosophy
Familiarity with Charlotte Mason's philosophy of education
Appreciation of sports and games as learning tools
Appreciation for community engagement
Conversive knowledge of Spanish
